Supporting TFN
Because everything's always fucking changing, herewith, a one-stop list of the platforms and ways you can support TFN...
Free Ways!
Supporting TFN doesn’t have to mean parting with money. Some of you need all you’ve got. (Which is one reason TFN exists!)
So, you can support TFN by sharing TFN stuff you enjoy with your friends — via email, or on social media or even using that giant hole on the front of your head if you ever see humans in person any more. Also — participating! Be it in the post comments or TFN’s chat.
I try not to boost social media owned by cartoon supervillains, but if you’re active on their platforms, please go ahead. If you’re looking for an alternative, you can find me on Bluesky and boost TFN there.
Keeping TFN Going
TFN is free for everyone because enough of you Newsfuckers step up to make that possible by supporting TFN financially. Thank you. Here are some ways you can do that.
If you can swing it, the preferred way — the way that gooses Substack’s algorithm and keeps TFN rising on Substack’s Leaderboard — is by upgrading to a paid subscription. You can choose a monthly or annual subscription or you can even pay an ungodly amount of money of your own choosing as a Founding member supporting TFN’s ungodly work.
The only way to upgrade is not via the Substack app, but using your browser:
Please note that even if the form lets you use American Express, your subscription WILL NOT go through because, I swear to Almighty Jesus, American Express objected to the profanity. So, please use an alternative card if you have one, or…
Other Ways to Support TFN
CHOOSING YOUR OWN SUBSCRIPTION RATE You can subscribe to TFN via Buy Me A Coffee at a subscription rate you choose by entering the amount you want and then clicking “Make this monthly”
MORE SUBSCRIBING! Didja know I have two Substacks? It’s true! The weekday newsletter is TFN, but I also have the Jonathan Larsen Substack for original reporting. You can support that work, specifically, with a paid subscription by clicking here. (And even use American Express! Sneaky, right?)
DONATIONS We’ve added (finally) a new online donation platform! And it’s less evil than more popular than but still owned by PayPal! That’s right, I finally figured out how to add Venmo to this thing, so if you want to support TFN or the Jonathan Larsen Substack without also giving a piece to the PayPal League of Supervillains, we highly encourage you to use you can now do so with Venmo, too. Thank you for either!
De-Uncluttering
Did you know TFN has a shop where you can buy amazing overpriced swag, but most of the cost doesn’t actually go to TFN but to the shadowy, presumably exploitative third-party companies involved? I know, sounds bad when I newsfuck it that way, but still, hey, cool merch!
E PLURIBUS FUCKEM SHIRT!
BAD-ASS T-SHIRT!
SLIGHTLY LESS BAD-ASS HOODIE!
CAP!
MUG!
OTHER MUG!
There’s other stuff, too: Tote bag, decals, wine tumbler, and water bottles. All of which will some day be part of the problem. But in the meantime, fun!
Bottom Line
However you’re supporting TFN, please know that you’re making it possible for me to do what I’ve always tried to do in my career — at MSNBC, CNN, ABC, and elsewhere — which is to pursue journalism that makes the world better. Except for people making the world worse.
At a time when America’s media, including places I’ve worked, are struggling, TFN is growing. You did that. And you’re making it possible for me to make a living doing this for you. Thank you.

I'm old and poor, but I do try and share your wonderful columns. And for reasons I don't understand, I have quite a few bluesky followers, I assume all the Russian bots.
I would definitely appreciate another way of making a donation. I don't have a PayPal account, and actually avoid the other cash transfer ones, as well. My go-to is just paying with a debit card. No idea how that gets set up.
You are SO appreciated, for a growing number of reasons. Thank you for not making collecting $$ the top priority. I just dropped two (important?/huge) accounts for that very reason. I know there's a vast difference between greed and survival, but GREED is a huge part of why we are in this mess, and I'm just sick of the constant emphasis on collecting more $$! Thank you for your integrity, and I hope it 'pays off' for you in ALL the ways.
