You are carrying on a legitimate and research based™️ tradition of social psychology which I am educated in and still a bit without the serious footnotes for. But all the good (and bad) psychology peeps understand. Freud, Goebbels, the lesser known Freud Bernays and of course Ms Hannah Arendt. They didn’t use the word coolness of course. But we do. Also all those creepy experiments from the 60s and 70s about shocking people and playing prison guards/inmates. Obviously there’s a lot more going on than coolness but if I am not mistaken social capital in the form of charisma and hipness are influential and super interesting for understanding what’s going on right now. At least in my sleep-gummy fueled musings it seems to *explain so much*. But seriously just to parce out one of the cool things about your particular approach I have noticed you bring a better than average among the journalistic community understanding of social psychology to your work. I think this is a strength which serves the depth of your insights as well as your success with getting people to pay attention. Or maybe it’s just that this appeals to psychology weirdos like me? But either way, it’s fun so thanks and thanks for reading my coffee fueled elaboration 😅

Thank you! I love this! I was a philosophy major in college, not great at it, but didn't really focus on traditional philosophy. My advisor was Dan Dennett, who was very interested in "consciousness" and philosophy of mind, so some brain shit may have filtered in along the way. (I'll say no more about the degrading insult of referring to my understanding as "better than average among the journalistic community." Damned with faint praise indeed!)

Haha sorry that was meant as full compliment but some of my grief/rage about <all of the crap going on> must have come through. It’s great for avid readers like myself to learn more about your background and the origins of your approach to the news; and it definitely makes sense that study of consciousness and philosophy is in the mix at TFN proving that the OPPOSITE of dumbing things down is what people actually want, maybe? I am a big fan of at least dabbling in as much cross disciplinary understanding as my tired brain can absorb. Go liberal arts education! (It’s helped me a lot in my own work, I would like to think.)

I truly don't get why tfffg was allowed to even be nominated to run in spite of inciting the insurrection. Was it because Garland never got around to his case? What is wrong with this country?

I understand (per Ben Meiselas) SCOTUS decided the 14th amendment section 3 is not "self-executing" & that congress would have to pass laws or some shit to make it happen & that wasn't something that would happen with this congress. So, like, it's so straightforward that no one understands how this could even happen, but it was manipulated to override the intent of the law. Again.
