"which workout routine he uses to maintain his amazing physique"

- Let me save the press sycophants a little time. That would be golf and ONLY golf, because he believes the human body has a finite reserve of energy, and exercise eats away too much of that reserve.

I read HCR and then TFN every morning to keep me sane. You've proven your value. I can't figure out how to upgrade to paid.

Thank you, Susan! Controllers don't have "high turnover," they have a washout rate in training of more than 30 percent (despite it's hard to get in the program, with all the cognitive tests and psych evaluations). Somehow I passed all the tests, including the thinly disguised one to determine if you might be just a little bit psycho.

It's hard training for an almost impossibly hard job. Retirement is after 25 years of active duty. I made it three years, 1970-1973, and I was a high altitude controller: no prop planes and no helicopters. And back when I was an ATC you could retire after 20 years at 1/2 your best pay. I could have retired at age 42.

My impression fifty years ago was it's a job you are almost born to do and may not be able to do much else out in the "world." All these years since I've described the job as "a video game with real people." AFAIK all the guys I worked with got fired by Reagan in 1981.

I guess these are just little nits. Thanks for all your great thinking on this and other fucking news.

PS In the tv coverage of the air collision, the reporters and news commentators are so totally ignorant of anything ATC and of most things aviation, period. And the expert analysts tie themselves in knots using as many big words and phrases as they can think up to try to puff up their cred.

Between the two groups I can't stand to listen.

Wow. Thank you. FWIW, a high-school buddy -- wait, no, a MIDDLE-school buddy of mind is a pilot (not commercial). So I called to ask for insights from him and his son...ALSO a pilot. I'm not sure I did justice to their counsel, but I tried to stay within the guardrails of what I should/shouldn't say. SO appreciate you sharing all of this!

You did a hell of a good job for not being a controller and, I assume, not a pilot. The radar technology is way, way ahead of what we had fifty years, and to my mind it may not be all to the good. Our screens were pretty much just "targets" (I thought even then that that was a very poor choice of a word). A target is just a little blip indicating "that's an airplane." We were just beginning to get the new "altitude readout," (on the radar screen) one screen at a time. One shift I'd sit down at a sector that had altitude readout, the next day at a sector that did not. It was discombobulating and some of the reason why I gave up and quit.

I talked to Air Force One once, at about 3 a.m. CST, over Chicago. Probably not Nixon, might have been Kissinger, headed for China. They flew at Flight Level 410 (41,000 feet), above virtually all other air traffic. Getting AF One out of DCA airspace is, of course, a kettle of worms for AF One just as it is for everyone else. Were one an orange person that would turn their knuckles white.

Today, the radar screens are just glommed with "data" everywhere. I cannot see the trees for the forest. I call this "data salad." It reminds me of my relationship with MS Word. I was thrilled with it in The Beginning, but over the years Word has become so heavy with useless crap that, for example, when I want to do something I used to be able to do while asleep, like putting some data in a table, now I have to find where to even find a "TABLE" button to begin. I still can rite pretty good ahem despite Word's every attempt to thwart me!

I am always glad to help anybody if I can so call on me if you feel the urge! I know quite a bit about wireless communication, tower erection, and human women.

I laughed out loud at "the official, professional investigation ..." because it will take a year (tho in this case I'm not sure why) to investigate causes, definitively determine what happened, and figure out what changes need to be made to prevent it from happening again. The Prayer Brigade, of course, isn't interested in any of that, they just want to blame someone, anyone — as long as they're a democrat and preferably a black puerto rican spanish-speaking deaf legally blind double amputee trans man muslim. Did I miss any boxes?

Interesting. when I tried to confront my sister after the election with my opinions on what she and others like her have unleashed for this country, she said “at least we finally have common sense in the government.” Now that I’ve heard FElon Trusk use that phrase multiple times I’m beginning to see the brainwashing.

Do people want common sense in their computer techs? Heart surgeons?

What pisses me with orange fat tiny mushroom dick over the crash is my g/f brother flies for PSA and landed 20 mins before the crash happened. Reagan is one of the worst airports in the country, appropriately named for one of the worst presidents and the fucking piece of shit can’t even say one fucking sane word. I will be praying next time the helo takes off from the same base across from Reagan that the fat pos is on it and you can figure it out from there…..

You do realize the guy is a psychopath. Read about it (https://www.choosingtherapy.com/signs-of-a-psychopath/) and then look at his comments. Delusions of grandeur, no empathy, manipulative (all about me), can't help but lie all the time, uninterested in facts or details, unnecessarily cruel or mean, etc, etc, etc.

And he's all ours for four years unless his dementia which is also showing gets worse. But this Republican Party seems intent on going along for the ride so he could be stark raving mad (some say he's there already) and they'll sit there in awe.

It never fails to amaze me that people imagine there’s some sort of ‘four year’ limit on all this just because we used to have peaceful transfers of power every 4 years. This isn’t a four year term. The inmates have taken over the asylum with no plans to leave ever and half the country is just fine with that. Elected Republicans are solidly party over country and will tell you to your face that Democrats should not be involved in any part of governing.

“It ain’t over ‘til it’s over” and that won’t be in four years.

Remember how the Benghazi hearings worked out for them!

I mean...I don't remember four years of President Hillary so maybe it kinda did work out for them. "Flood the zone" bullshit does seem to have an effect.

Fair, though I’m not sure anyone’s pegged 2016 to Benghazi? As for flood the zone, we have some say about that! We’re allowed to ignore and prioritize. That’s part of my goal at TFN, to do that better and help others to.

The Benghazi hearings definitely dinged her image to lots of low info voters.
