I’m going to upgrade to a paid subscription, I need the humor and the rage!

I had to google how to upgrade because it’s been so long since I bought a few paid subscriptions with automatic renewals.

I’m

Still trying to figure out how to upgrade.

Thefuckingnews.substack.com/subscribe should give you all the upgrade options! Thank you!

Thanks, Sheryl! (Probably a bad time to mention that all subscribers get access to all posts, right? THAT’S what paid subscribers are supporting!)

Jonathan, thanks for today’s post. I’ve been down all day, but your writing made me laugh and gave me a reality check and some hope.

Thanks, Brian. I love all of those things. Except you being down all day. One down!

Whatever the reason for people believing or not believing, the ultimate ends to a belief is that one treat another with dignity and respect and tolerate the differences SO LONG AS THOSE DIFFERENCES DO NOT ACTIVELY TRAMPLE OTHERS’ BELIEFS.

My main dig is that The Orange Turd used religion and religiosity as a political tool, disregarding the beliefs but embracing the practicing Protestants’ ignorance of their religion and what it stand for. The Orange Turds degree of religiosity is consistent with how much he can take from them. His practice is limited to ‘hatched, matched, and dispatched.’

Hey, everyone. Watch Bad Faith, a documentary on Netflix. For the leaders in the evangelical political movement, it’s about creating chaos. For them Trump is a useful idiot. 1. They will get more money and power from politicians and their sheep, as people try to find anything to hang on to.

2. Chaos must reign before the second (first?) coming of Jesus. It’s in the Bible, idiots.

Bad Faith not on Netflix. Free on Tubi and Peacock and Amazon Prime if you have a subscription, Google Play for $.99 and Apple TV for 1.99 according to a Google search.

Thank you! I watched free on Amazon

Over at Wonkette, the owner is insisting on a "Naug-free-zone" for the day. Comments limited to the usual -- recipes, dick jokes, links to cat photos, who woke up today with what afflictions and maladies, ad nauseum. Heads buried in the sand.

I quit looking at Kos years ago.

I just read your good work, now have commented, now going to finish Tom Robbins's "Another Roadside Attraction" (1971).

Thanks! I get that different folks cope in different ways… I just hope to help coping without ignoring!

The unvarnished truth and a bit of humor. Nice article. Thanks

Thank you! There's probably a wee bit of varnish in there, but I try to be judicious...!

Great absolutely great post Jonathan that sums up all the hypocrisy of this moment. At his last Turning Point speech, Trump explicitly stated he wasn’t a christian but because it occurred during one of his brilliant “weaves” of parenthetical nonsense amid rapturous applause, it didn’t count for the faith zombies in attendance.

and the magical thinking and miracles continue with the dear leader…

amazing he could demonstrate such athletic prowess without even showing up. American is already great again…

Excellent piece. Thank you for continuing the coverage of Christian Nationalism and its long standing pursuit of dominion over all aspects of human existence. As a sort of survivor of the governorship of Dominionist Christofascist Sam Brownback, and as a woman, I find this aspect of our country (and the world) particularly terrifying. I was raised Roman Catholic in very rural and very small town with 11 different protestant sects serving a population of 2,000. (I have fully recovered from Catholicism and religion in general). But I remember the anti-Catholic stuff from many of the more evangelical sects in that little town. If these "christians" ever achieve their dominion (they have been working at it for centuries), the Roman Catholics will get the "convert or be killed" orders early, probably right after the Jews and Muslims.

Also may I congratulate you on the perfect description of many Southern Baptist youth pastors (and yes, Catholic priests) wet dreams: "MAGA school boards implement genitalia checks, putting untrained, uncertified, self-appointed “chaplains” at the doors of school restrooms to feel around for peni and labii?"

I appreciate all of this: the info and analysis, the brilliant writing and acidic humor. But I worry that there is a greater confidence in our crumbling institutions to hold the line than is warranted. As we saw with the election, truth and reality only go so far when they are set at the bases of mountains where avalanches of verbal sludge quickly consume them. Yes to all of your observations, but which outlets and platforms are going to report the sludge as sludge, to the point that not only those who follow and subscribe to you understand the dysfunction, but everyone does? Who is going to pry hands aware from eyes and ears to see that things are worsening? If they can’t recognize that things have been good under a D administration, I just don’t see how the ability to get and understand information is going to improve during this next administration. Please, please convince me.

I have to agree, except that things weren’t good under the Ds. Ask anyone in Gaza.

Absolutely agree on that front and on a number of others. But, considering what day it is, I’ve got zero interest in rehashing the last four years.

Vance also rejects the Pope as do the far right Catholics on the Supreme Court. And all of them reject Jesus teachings so I don’t understand how they call themselves either Catholics nor Christians

The Pope is infallible by definition, until he isn't, meaning until he strays from his role as Inquisitor-in-Chief.
