Related question/action. I read Heather Cox Richardson’s piece on Musk and his personal cotillion of barely wet behind the ears engineers staging a takeover of the treasury department’s payment system. She stated that because musk is a private citizen there is little Congress can do.

Can we—citizens—ask/report to the FBI that this is a crime? He’s literally taken over access to the treasury’s checkbook and all the data that accompanies accounts/people paid from that “checkbook.”

If this was a home invasion and your checkbook/financial transaction system was stolen or otherwise taken over, wouldn’t we call the police?

I’m confused as to why an immediate response to this is not underway. I need someone way smarter than me to help me understand, please.

I think at a minimum a citizen's arrest is in order and about 10,000 American citizens should show up and sit on his chest "until law enforcement arrives."

It was the New York office, reputedly, that had it out for Clinton in 2016 and helped keep "her emails" alive, so part of me is like good luck and we're rooting for you, and the other part... less so.

Love the characterization of being 'mired in a system that is doody-pants.' I worked in corporate and more than once heard or shared the sentiment: “It's hard to soar with eagles when you're surrounded by turkeys."

Thanks for your truth-telling and optimism. We need more of both as we wait for the skies to clear.

I wish someone would start keeping a count of the people worldwide who died or are injured by Trump's actions. Dumb s**** have consequences. I share your confidence, but in the meantime... still a bit worried. It will take a long time to fix what these clowns are doing.

“…FBI officials leading the defense against Trump’s purge.”

How long will they hold out after Elon Musk stops sending out paychecks to federal employees who don’t support Trump or Elon himself?

He’s been handed the power of the purse and the gang of oligarchs hold every tiny bit of personal information about us that’s ever been near the internet.

God help America

Trump: I have just ordered nuclear strikes on Russia, China, and Denmark to stop their impending attacks on the US.

Reporter: Mr President, there is no evidence that any of these countries was planning to attack the US. What made you think this?

Trump: Common sense.

…………

Everything’s fine. Nothing to worry about here.

I believe the correct pronunciation of DOGE is "dodge" ... like the car or like the kiddy game which is now what federal civil servants are playing or like "dodging and weaving".

It’s Me here. Substack junky. Your writing is really catching on and now I’m going out of my way looking for more of it. It used to be more of a fun pastime reading your work but now I need it. Funds are tight now and may well get much worse if the south african nazi has his way. My social security check is a big part of my income and now I’m not so sure about that being sacrosanct anymore. Also a recession is on the horizon and what sane middle american wants that! If I had my druthers I’d pay you for your work. If things work out on my end later on, I will. In the meanwhile a thank you for your work will have to do.

Wow, Mike, this means the world to me. It's hugely touching that anyone is moved to support my work, but that's even more true when it's folks who can't afford it. Obviously, I wish for everyone to have their druthers, but anyone who's moved to help out can do so by sharing, and praise-singing, too. Among your fellow travelers, on the social-media platforms where you may be active, sharing TFN and letting folks know the kind of stuff you just shared with me is a big, big deal. Right now, about one out of 20 Newsfuckers is a paid subscriber. Which means, on average, that anyone who wrangles 20 new ones in the door IS contributing financially. If that makes sense. That said, time, too, is a resource not everyone has. So, the bottom line is I'm grateful for the entire community and the support it gives me in many, many ways. Thanks, Mike, and I hope you and the rest of us weather the days ahead...

Thank you Katie for that generous offer. You’re an ally and I appreciate that more. I can limp along as a free subscriber for the time being until this, the latest economic shakeup of the day settles out.

Your wish is my command, Mike. As Jonathan replied to your post, "they also serve who only" share his posts, thereby increasing his audience and number of potential paid subscribers. BTW, the English lit major in me has to cite my source for that quoted phrase: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/44750/sonnet-19-when-i-consider-how-my-light-is-spent Relevant sentence: "They also serve who only stand and wait." Wishing you all good things..........Katie

LOL - I used to have a poetry phobia. Hmmm, is there a word for that? Sure thing! "The scientific name for the fear of poetry is metrophobia. It's an irrational or disproportionate fear of poetry." Anyway, I somewhat mitigated my metrophobia, discovered some poets/poems that deeply resonated, but still mostly avoid reading poems. So I fully understand your 'wink.'

"A Newsfucker asked me the other day whether I think all of this Trumping is super-smart calculation with some payoff coming for the chaos"

I've been wondering who will profit when the federal workers currently being summarily fired are replaced. Could the plan possibly be to replace many of them with AI/IoT-driven systems that can “do the job so much better”. You know. Be so brilliant at all the predictive analysis, pattern recognition, detection, strategic and operational decision support and decision-making and so on that's worked out so well for United Healthcare, for instance. Or so badly, of course, if you're a dying patient rather than a shareholder...

So. Who will profit when all the dismissed pillars that keep the country running, be they the great and good or be they ever so humble, all the analysts, including domestic and international intelligence analysts, all the air, road, maritime, and inland waterways traffic controllers, all the inspectors maintaining the standards of food, health, transport, financial activity, construction, infrastructure, OHS, etc.), all the accountants and bookkeepers, pay cerks and payroll clerks and so on and on and on and on, are replaced by artificial ‘intelligence’ systems????

Suivre l'argent…?

I posted a comment on another letter that I read that suggested people should stop their deductions to the Federal Government from their paychecks. The comment disappeared. So I thought maybe i had forgot to hit the ‘post’ button. I posted again. Again it disappeared. I’m wondering why and who. Any suggestions anyone?
