Republicans lack critical thinking skills!

Hmmm. I thought they had learned about the course CRT that’s taught in law school. I’m not sure of the full words but isn’t this course teaching law students the law regarding the systemic abuse of blacks and laws that can protect them…or maybe even hate crimes. This was about the time the book 1669 (not sure that’s the right title) and the subject of that book I think was the history of slavery which added to MAGA confusion thinking that’s taught in grades K-12. They didn’t want their children to feel guilty. The truth is CRT has never been taught in public school. What is taught is American history. (I’m just thinking out loud here.) I could be all wrong but that’s what I deduced from the news about these subjects. My husband was a lawyer but he’s not around anymore for me to ask.

Maybe I need to take a critical thinking class! 🤔😁

MAGA parents confuse critical thinking and CRT, so they don't want critical thinking in public schools.

Democrats have to stage a sit in and not budge on the budget. Do not pass the budget unless the Republicans clean up their mess and get off our back and push Musk out on his ear. Draw up conditions and blatantly refuse to budge. Trump's weakness is the economy, and his goal is to get money for his supporters the oligarchs not us; the stock market, jobs numbers are another weakness -- we are losing anyway on all of those fronts if this continues. I say fuck the economy fuck all of it; we will recover from any of it and during the challenging times must commit to hold each other up -- but we cannot recover our freedom. Let's flood the phones DO NOT APPROVE THE BUDGET!! After you've been robbed and assaulted and left fearing for your life do you write the assailant a Trillion Dollar check? Hell no! We won't go for it. It's insane. Block them. Do what they have done to us when we tried to get great things done that help people. Block them. In my humble opinion it is both right and urgent to refuse them.

Can someone file a RICO case against these crooks? And what's this I read today that the US government just took out $80 Mil. from a New York city bank account legally granted by FEMA for migrant housing. The government nor Citibank informed them o the withdrawal. Gangsterism I tell you.

Expand full comment

Oh yeah! These are gangsters. Do you give gangsters money? We must get the word to the democrats to block the approval of the budget. Give them nothing. Set conditions. We have rats in the house, and they are multiplying. Let's starve them out.

Tiny local action: yesterday I went to a local city council meeting and made a statement during the public comment period explaining some of the local impacts of this government coup. They listened and will consider a resolution about it next week.

It’s a tiny place, population -8000.

Let’s have 10 statements at every meeting of every one of the 1000’s of local jurisdictions around the country.

OMG Jonathan! I'm just home from a painful dental procedure. I "thought" The fucking news would cheer me up. Wrong. The worst news was rfk jr looking for new curtains for his new office. I literally teared up. OK that might be the drugs... Time to go lay down with cat.

this shit ain't going anywhere.

Sorry, Kay... I didn't put enough emphasis on just how fucked Republicans are with this stuff. Only read the parts labeled "Good News" -- NO ONE wants these plans, and not even enough Republicans support them for them to pass. Shoot I forgot the spoiler warning... enjoy the catnap...

I’m 74, disabled, and on Medicaid. I just love the opportunity to defraud the government by having as many unnecessary tests and procedures as possible while gloating about stealing from my fellow Americans, like my friends, neighbors, children, and grandchildren. I’m going to call my doctor right now and fake some symptoms so I can score an unnecessary colonoscopy! Woohoo!

With both my body and my mind going south, the only job I’m qualified for is Congressman or maybe Senator or possibly President. If there’s a work requirement, our jobs may be to run the country. Oh, wait - the Constitution says we already do! We pay attention and we vote and we get involved, and our “pay” is all the benefits we paid for with our taxes. We can make this work.

If you run for anything I'd vote and campaign for you! You sound completely sane! And, actually have a sense of humor which is a mark of high intelligence.

I cannot believe they would target Medicaid. Next on the chopping block is social securit I am certain of it.

I work in health care, and Medicaid saved so many. I have worked in both behavioral health and medical health care and many children with medical or mental health diagnoses are living good lives because they are getting treatment. When they age out of their parent's insurance they are usually qualified for Medicare/Medicaid.

People don't know the difference between the two. Medicare gives "care" -- and Medicaid gives "aid" -- the combination helps these burgeoning young adults enter adulthood with a chance to do what any young adult wants and needs to do. Attend school or study a trade. Have friends and relationships. Marry and have children.

There is no one more compassionate than a child who has a challenge whether it is medial or behavioral. And no one more grateful for the chance to normalize their lives with a bit of care and aid. This goes for adults as well. Exactly the same. We are messing with the lives of wonderfully good people who need our help.

This is what we are supposed to do as a nation of diverse citizens. It is in fact what all the other nations where democracy exists do for each other.

Trump's plan for us is to be our King and his family will inherit the throne. And we will be his serfs and indentured servants. A third world country in service to his ego and lust for riches.

My brother, who lives in Idaho, recently lost Medicaid coverage because he began receiving long-overdue SS disability which put him $300 over the monthly income cap for Idaho (his only income is from SS and SSDI). And he lost his food stamp credit.

He now has to pay for health insurance, the cheapest plan (has to be from Idaho) costs him $140 a month, has a $500 annual deductible and of course, cost shares for everything. He is nearly blind from diabetes and can't work to make up the difference.

I've been subsidizing him for several years to keep him from living under the overpass. The additional money he now needs is a "tax" on me for being humane.

He has 20 months until he's MEDICARE eligible and even then he will have to use an Advantage plan with their numerous requirements just to make it.

How soon until torches and pitchforks?

Please be cautious about Advantage plans! They are ripoffs. They’ll promise dental fillings and then deny your heart surgery. I realize they’ve put us in a bad situation. Bless you for helping your brother. 💚

F'ing brilliant f'ing take-down of the all-so unChristian, no-family-values, unpatriotic, anti-law-and-order GOP hate group.

Speaking of hate, I hate to be that person (especially twice on one post!) but .... I'm wavering on whether this is an accurate reading of what the judge did:

"Well, yesterday, a judge ended the freeze that another judge had placed on the buyout offer. Meaning, the buyout offer was legal and the Trump administration can go ahead and honor its buyout offer for all those retirees."

WaPo described what the judge did this way: "In his ruling, O’Toole wrote that the unions’ lawsuit could not succeed because they lacked standing to sue and because his court lacked jurisdiction."

If we're talking the same judge and the same case, I read "lacked standing" and "lacked jurisdiction" as the judge NOT ruling the buyout offer as LEGAL or ILLEGAL. In other words, the merits of the case were not evaluated. If a plaintiff with STANDING filed the case to a court that had JURISDICTION, only then would the merits of the case be adjudicated and a judgment re the buyout offer's legality be determined. N'est-ce pas?

Expand full comment

I hear you. But since no one's successfully sued to stop it, it remains de facto legal, even if the judge opted not to weigh in on the suit's merits. So he may not have ruled on its legality, but his ruling had the effect of rendering it legal. Was how I was trying to shorthand it, anyway! Thanks.

Nice article. Minor correction: Governor Scott’s former business was implicated in MediCARE fraud, not MedicAID fraud.

I can’t figure out why the government can’t just go after Medicare fraud by having agents with actual phone numbers (like mine) that get called weekly by scammers impersonating Medicare. They could trace the call (is that no longer possible?) or give them a bogus number that would flag claims on it as fraudulent.
