This old retired AT&T exec (a Good Old Boy) named Dick Yarbrough in Cobb County, Georgia (where MAGA test-pilots fascist strategies like banning 200 library books & firing a teacher who read a book aloud that a few MAGA parents didn’t like) has a regular editorial column in the county record Marietta Daily Journal. Cobb is an Atlanta ‘White Flight’ suburb that was a small town involved in the Civil War. Dick thinks he’s a funny, harmless old man, but he treats rank racism so lightly in today’s column, it makes it even more chilling.
He wrongly claims Kamala Harris is ineligible to be President, because she’s not a naturalized American- even though she was born here. This is because he can’t stand that nonwhite immigrants deserve and enjoy the same civil rights as white Americans, because to him nonwhite people are inherently inferior. His attempts to make these repulsive opinions funny makes it even worse. He is grossly oblivious of his own racism. Here’s the column (paywalled publication, but should allow 1 view):
Let's not pretend that any American president can come in cracking skulls for the people. Not gonna happen. Too late. It's a balancing act between huge, huge money and some sense of decency. I wish the crypto and AI apocalypse genies could be stuffed back into their bottles but that ain't happening esp worldwide. Gotta participate so things can be crafted and supervised and the working shmoes like me can at least be aware of how we are being robbed.
Hey, if the only pressure she gets is from the money, that's where she'll go! Democracy means the non-money masses just gotta equal or exceed that pressure...
I must not be imaginative enough to think of a way that non-money can apply pressure other than withholding the vote, in which case the greater of two evils win, or a large enough workers strike. Both require organizing at a level that may not be achievable in time to affect the administration we want to pressure, if at all.
I can think of replacing everyone, like the original goal of Justice Democrats (is it still?), but that requires right-wing-style message discipline, therefore organizing, so I'm stuck at the same hurdle.
Thank you Haitians. Maybe YOUR lawyers can stop (or slow down) the mouth garbage that is spewing like a broken oil well from the MAGA morons in charge. Yelling fire in a crowded venue is crime.. or at least was. But screaming and spreading outright lies to roar up the media should be held to the same standard.
