Deeply moving words today. I witness the denigration of activists and the state-sanctioned violence against them here in Australia. In Iran. In Brazil. In the US. In Hong Kong. In Catalonia. In Gaza. In Myanmar... Every time I wonder what the human beings inside their deidentifying uniforms, even their faces obscured, are thinking and feeling. "I'm just doing my job" or "I am participating in the oppression of people who could be my family and friends"? How does this happen? Will we ever rebalance the power enough to disrupt the status quo?

All forms of "government" are authoritarian. Governments only exist to protect the wealthy criminals from us. The ruling class is terrified of the protests because when we assemble en masse we will overwhelming outnumber them. Unfortunately, capitalism effectively stifles that here because too many people would lose their jobs and become homeless if they miss a few days at work. We have no social safety nets to allow us to protest our government effectively. You know that much vaunted and ballyhooed 1st amendment right to peacefully protest has been taken away from us. If we ever truly had it.
