Thanks so much for the tribute to Aaron Brown. I have certainly missed him these last ~20 years. His reporting was indeed thorough and informative. And he guided me through the horror of 9/11. I considered him a friend although I never had the opportunity to meet him.

Sure hope the Trump/Bernie bill about capping credit card interest passes. Better start playing the video clips of Trump promising that.

BTW that fake video clip is perfect! I know it’s from when Donald got so scared by an eagle, but Bernie’s slap is so perfect!

Related news—I just got a letter from Chase saying they are raising their interest to over 30% for Kohl’s cards. WTH?? Plus “up to” $40 late fee.

I always pay my credit cards in full on time. When I first moved out on my own I ran up some credit card debt, took me a year to pay it off because the interest rate was so high—about 15% as I recall.

"sure hope..." etc etc--

I'd be stoked for 15% interest!

Isn’t it nuts?? 10% would give the banks plenty of income.

he should do the same with “no tax on tips.” or how about a bill prohibiting the taking of Social Security funds, as trump also promised they would not be touched. Smart Bernie

Aaron Brown was my favorite local news anchor in Seattle, where he was originally on the locally owned NBC affiliate KING 5. He was “our guy” who went onto bigger and more important roles in journalism. I’m very glad the larger world got to experience him. As a young adult watching his first reporting moments in the ‘70’s it was obvious he was a person of integrity, dry humor and great wit….as well as a terrific journalist.

I loved Aaron Brown. He was smart with a rapier wit, and he always made me feel he was trying to pass on information in a solid way the viewer could digest. He was my favorite anchor.

Nice tribute to your chum Aaron Brown.

Re Associated Press: When I was in the News Business we called it "The A and P." When it snowed, somebody had to sweep the stuff off of our big satellite dish.

Bernie should also introduce a bill stopping taxes on Social security for retirees. Trump said he would do that. We should not be double taxed on SS while rich get tax cuts.

Correction of date: According to the AP link you provided, Senator Cramer's son's car chase leading to the death of a police officer in North Dakota occurred a month earlier: "Those charges related to a Dec. 6, 2023, chase and crash that killed Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputy Paul Martin, 53." Still karma, just not perfectly so....

See what happens when I try to invoke karma? I get karmaed! Thanks for the catch, Katie. I'll correct it and speak to the part of my brain that wanted it to be true after class...

LMAO. I confess to discovering you by mistake - sufficiently unsavvy about Substack that I unintentionally didn't uncheck the "try 'em for free" boxes when I intentionally subscribed to a different author. Out of nowhere, your newsletter began appearing in my in-box; I deleted the first few thinking "SPAM." Eventually opened one (after ensuring that doing so would not give my computer a terminal disease), was amused and informed, opened and read another ... and another ... and am now a very satisfied paid subscriber. I'm thinking there may be some karma here ....

In any event, thank you for your reporting and for your humor in doing so. Laugh and the world laughs with you; cry and you cry alone. [Hmmm, years of using that adage, but now I know its source and it's "weep and you weep alone": https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/45937/solitude-56d225aad9924] Perhaps more appropriately, "[your] spoonful of sugar [humor] makes the medicine [insane perfidy and stupidity] go down [without rendering the rest of us insane as well]."

Haven't read the main section of today's newsletter yet, but feel compelled to thank you for your tribute to Aaron Brown and his dedication to covering the news as a serious obligation. I've several opened links to learn more about him. One in particular from an NBC correspondent, Vaughn Hillyard, who seems more "old school": https://x.com/VaughnHillyard/status/1874142211279143092?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet Be sure to read the full thread to witness Vaughn's full tribute.
