Yeah, Chumps idea about not taxing tips is pandering and won’t be done regardless of the lip service anyone provides. To my mind, at this stage, giving that idea oxygen helps Repugs not Dems. On pocket book and kitchen table issues, Dems need to control the narrative.

I dunno, I could see him being totally serious about it. Why not? People would like him for it. That’s what fuels him, no? As for giving it oxygen, I both agree but kinda don’t? Like, maybe Dems should as you say control the narrative on these issues — but maybe that won’t happen if no one nudges them to? It’s hard, which is why I try not to delve into armchair quarterbacking. Hard not to, sometimes!

You’re right about giving the Dems a push on the issue. My guess is if the Dems get the numbers, there will be action on that policy anyway. For now, my thought is to let the Repug initiative “die on the vine” just to get it out of the news cycle. It’s a tough call.

Agreed, for sure. And tbh I don’t credit my own strategic foresight enough to factor it in to what I do/don’t discuss. If I think something’s important, I try to discuss it and let the strategy chips fall where they may. If I had ANY kind of track record being strategic about what I do/don’t discuss maybe I’d act otherwise…! Thanks, Dan!

On the suggestion to end taxes on tips... I agree that the Democrats should lean into this, with a caveat: end taxes on tips as long as you raise taxes on the 1%. Fair?

Well, the Trump tax cuts ARE expiring soon… I think we’ll see that become a big battle before Election Day…

Why say Trump skimps on tips? He is known for generous tipping. Think I made mistake paying for this news

I’ve certainly seen anecdotal reports suggesting you’re right about his tipping habits. I may have been influenced by his record when it comes to paying his vendors and contractors, where the anecdotes have often ended up in court!
