Jonathan, can you link me to more of your thoughts about states as national fuck up? I’ve often thought many of our issues could be resolved if we were one united country. Moreso now than ever.
Do you seriously believe that if any of the currently suppressed material implicates powerful people or entities that it will be released? And you will believe Trump if he says it’s all been released?
I think anyone in a position to have had anything to do with it is long dead. Or, my guess only, didn't exist. I'm not sure whether I'll believe Trump, but I also don't feel super-invested in determining it one way or the other, I suppose?
I align with so much that you write, but I can never understand your anti-federalism. If there’s one concept that is more central to the constitution than anything else, it’s the divided power between the national government and lower government(not a literalist, but I believe in maintaining concepts/ideology). Any government has the possibility of corruption. Maintaining states at least allows for places of refuge when the national government goes crazy.
I'm a big checks/balances person, including non-federal entities. But I see states as driving a lot more bad than good. Full disclosure: Neither a historian nor political scientist, so take it for what it's worth!
Where the fuck does any non-native get off claiming that Native Americans aren’t citizens?! The concentration camp “reservations” are not their country, the entire continent is! It is THEY who should be deciding OUR citizenship status.
Trump really is getting his worst ideas from Israel.
Your quotation of Walter Dellinger quoting Lincoln's attorney general ...
"'[a]s far as I know ... you and I have no better title to the citizenship which we enjoy than the ‘accident of birth’ — the fact that we happened to be born in the United States.'” Today, in 1995, we cannot and should not try to solve the difficult problems illegal immigration poses by denying citizenship to persons whose claim to be recognized as Americans rests on the same constitutional footing as that of any natural-born citizen."
... seems to affirm my rambling comment/questions on your earlier post about birthright citizenship:
"if one isn't a citizen based on nation of birth, does everyone then have to become a naturalized citizen? If so, a lot of us are gonna fail the citizenship test!"
Maybe I wasn't as confused as I thought I was ....
I am, obviously, mortified that I left a stray "Robert" in front of Martin Luther King's name in the emailed version of today's TFN. Mea culpa. Sorry about that!
Lao Tzu said, "Govern a large country in the same way you would cook a small fish; you must be delicate."
I think we should keep frying pans and other tools of "governance" out of Trump's hands. He's not fit for our kitchen.

No fear! Just curious to read more on this from like-minded, smarter than me newsfuckers!
Tara, I haven't done a deep dive, I'm afraid...
Loved this!!!

I would put nothing past this corrupt SCOTUS
Oh, and Thaocnk Yaocu!
Thank for introducing me to a genuinely new experience: thinking a David Brooks writing is, on balance, clearly useful! Mind. Blown.

“That’s right, the members texted about their members and then asked Johnson to protect their johnsons.”
That’s funny right there….i don’t care who you are (unless you’re a Repug Congressman), that’s funny.
“the members texted about their members and then asked Johnson to protect their johnsons …..
and finally ordered their staff not to discuss their staff”
:-D
If anyone should, could, or would laugh at jokes about morning wood, then David Wood would.
[exits rapidly, stage left]
p.s. Jonathan's "Johnson's & members" had me snorting also.
Mags will get us all unalived. Good job maga electing a dictatorship!

FYI, just because nitpicking, Trump’s stupid order would only affect children born AFTER the order.
It’s still a fucking stupid, hateful piece of shit…like the guy who signed it.
I am, obviously, mortified that I left a stray "Robert" in front of Martin Luther King's name in the emailed version of today's TFN. Mea culpa. Sorry about that!
We all make mistakes, I do, your apology shows that you are morals, ethnics, and a good human being 👍
The Fucking New puts some light and joy onto the fucking mess.
To err is human; to acknowledge error, divine.
Great fucking run down
