Promises Broken — A Running Tally
An updated list of Trump's already-abandoned campaign promises
Before even taking office, RePresident-elect Donald Trump has indicated he’s backtracking on some of the campaign promises that got both MAGA and disengaged voters to elect him president. Again. In some cases his nominees or representatives have backed off those vows. In other cases, Trump himself has switched to using language must less certain about what he will do or whether it will work.
Instead of letting those campaign promises get memory-holed by the Dory-esque corporate media, your memory-trying-to-have TFN is going to keep track of the backtracks here.
Newsfuckers are encouraged to add their own examples in the comments — with the caveat that Newsfuckers will not take it personally if their suggestions don’t get added to the main article!
War
Trump has run since 2015 as a critic of U.S. involvement in foreign wars.
On Nov. 25, 2024, Time asked Trump what the chances are that the U.S. will go to war with Iran. He said, “Anything can happen.”
Military Wokeness
Trump has run as a foe of wokeness, awareness of and empathy for other people, their history, and their place in society. Especially in the military. Specifically, Trump said he would ban transgender military personnel. He also wrote, “WE WILL NOT HAVE A WOKE MILITARY!"
Trump’s Defense secretary nominee, former Fox anchor Pete Hegseth, reportedly said after meeting with senators considering his nomition that he doesn’t support banning LGBTQ+ service members or women in combat. The Trump transition team said, “If you can meet the standards, you can serve."
Inflation
Trump said during the campaign that with him in the White House, “inflation will vanish completely.”
On Nov. 25, 2024, Trump discussed grocery prices with Time, saying, “I'd like to bring them down. It's hard to bring things down once they're up.”
Immigration
Trump said during the 2016 and 2024 campaigns that he would close the border with Mexico.
On Nov. 27, 2024, Trump didn’t backtrack from that promise. He simply proclaimed it fulfilled, falsely claiming that Mexico’s new president had shut the border in response to his phone call.
Education
Trump said last year, “One other thing I’ll be doing very early in the administration is closing up the Department of Education.”
Trump told Time on Nov. 25, 204, that it will only be “A virtual1 closure” and the department will still “make sure” English and math are taught.
More to Come
This list will be updated as additional examples come to light.
Newsfuckers are welcome to share in the comments ways that Trump has already dropped the promises that got MAGA voters to support him…
Whatever the fuck that virtually means.
Thanks for keeping track—or at least attempting to do so. There are so many flips and flops by the biggest liar it really takes a village to stay focused on the stupid. A yeoman’s task for sure.
I seem to recall that Trump said he would protect women ‘whether they like it or not,’ then he nominated multiple sexual predators for potential positions of power over, like, lots of women.
